Evan Chapman 2023 Portfolio

I'm Evan Chapman, an aspiring screenwriter and script editor. Originally from the East Riding of Yorkshire, I have attended the Arts University Bournemouth's Film Production BA Course for the last three years. Graduating in the summer of 2024 and relocating to London, I hope to begin my career developing stories within the film and television industry.
Terrar (2021)
'Terrar' was my first year, science fiction, comedy short film (budget £60). I wrote and directed the short, the story centring around an underdeveloped society discovering they were living within a student terrarium experiment. 'Terrar' has since had a fairly successful festival run:

Student World Impact Film Festival: Semi-Finalist
Cinemagic Young Filmmaker 2023: Highly Commended
First Time Filmmakers Sessions Hosted by Lift-Off Global Network: Official Selection (x2)
Lift-Off Filmmakers Sessions Hosted by Lift-Off Global Network: Official Selection (x3)
Wild Indie Sci-Fi & Fantasy Film Festival: 1st Round Qualifier
Lowescroft Film Festival: Official Selection

The Walking Greg (2023)
A horror-comedy, 'The Walking Greg' is a short film I wrote and directed (budget £100). It follows Greg, an exhausted university student who mistakes a student film set for a zombie apocalypse. Shot during April 2023, this was a personal project I worked on outside of my university studies.

Lost and Found (2022)
During my second year at university, as part of the monthly Arts University Bournemouth Weekend Film Challenge we worked to a brief and created a short film in 48 hours. I adapted and developed an idea to work within the brief, writing and directing the short. Influenced by Christmas ad campaigns, we worked with a small crew to work around the tight deadline for submission.
On High Alert (2023)
As part of the final year directorial pitches, we were tasked with creating a one minute short film based around the prompt 'mistake'. I utilised this opportunity to film a small section of a short film I had been developing, based around people reacting differently to the end of the world. 'On High Alert' is a short comedy, following two stoners as they decide what to do with their final moments after receiving a missile alert via text.
Additional work
Prior to attending University, I volunteered to create an advertisement video/plea to prevent a local youth boxing club. Because of this video, the plea was successful and the decision to close down the club was reversed. Since then my technical skill and understanding of the filmmaking process has drastically improved.
Lighting has been a large part of my time on sets, working as a Gaffer or Best Boy on various student film sets. Pictured above: Set photographs from 'Elbadeo's Workshop' (2023, Dir. Sophie Robertson) and 'Working Refuse' (2023, Dir. Pearl Thomas-Booking).
Screenwriting
Attached below are a selection of short film scripts I have written and developed over the last three years.

Radio
I host a radio show called 'The Sound of Cinema' with my co-host Eddie Mould. Each week we tackle different subjects relating to music choices within films. Previous themes have been 'Horror', 'Film openings' and 'Song in films about things within the films and I no I won't phrase that better'.
